Marketing positioning 2.0: Navigating successfully through tight job markets

Having an oversupply of labor requires a different approach when defining, creating, and marketing job positions. It is therefore not surprising that marketing positioning was already developed in Switzerland decades ago. The thoughts behind this are currently relevant in Germany, too, as millions of managers and skilled workers are expected to retire in the near future.

Considering the fact that the Corona pandemic accelerated this process, it is even more surprising  that the interchangeability of job titles and job postings still appears to be very high. As etec Consult has been effectively recruiting personnel for high-demand positions, we are well aware of this issue.

Secondly, the vacant position should align with the candidate's motivation to switch jobs, which could be complex: In addition to showing interest in the position itself and the tangible assets (such as salary, share in profits, benefits, future pay raises), the candidates also consider their current life situation (e.g. work life balance, flexible work hours), the identification with the potential employer (leadership, business culture, values, purpose) and the infrastructure (housing prices, availability of public transports as well as the regional childcare on offer). To gain a comprehensive understanding of the candidate's current situation and goals, it is necessary to engage in an in-depth conversation and demonstrate genuine interest in their background.
