The United States as the strongest economic power in the world and a very important market for German medium-sized companies is also in focus for etec Consult. etec Consult is continuously on site in the USA: both for projects and for visiting the important trade fairs in Chicago (e.g. Automation Fair or the IMTS). The Canadian market is equally familiar to us through successful projects.

Our consultants Frederik Horn and Gerhard Deiss visited the IMTS and PackExpo in Chicago a few weeks ago. The visit to significant international trade fairs in important market regions is an important component for the development of our personnel service. Our Lower Bavarian subsidiary decided to bundle its development competencies for electronics, which had previously been available at one German and one Dutch location. Interview on the topic of "Headhunting and Personnel Consulting in the USA"

LK: It is rather unusual for an executive search companyto get so involved in North America. What makes etec Consult an ideal partner for filling in top management positions in the USA and Canada?

FH:  North America has always had a tremendous potential for German medium-sized enterprises.  But there are still plenty of companies that do not make the most of these opportunities. We have decided early on to support the expansion of German companies in North America. One reason of our success in the region is based on our excellent intercultural understanding.  Furthermore, our services include acting as both a “translator” and “cultural bridge”, because the structure of the sales channels as well as the go-to-market strategies in the US vary significantly to Europe. 

RK: Additionally, we have always aligned our executive search department internationally with successful projects in more than 60 countries, allowing us to offer a considerable network of candidates, especially in the US.


LK:  What characterizes the personnel market in the US? How does it differ from the German personnel market?

RK: Executives in the US and in Canada are extremely opportunity seeking. Entrepreneurial freedom and a distinctive, occasionally aggressive growth orientation are perceived positively, whereas German managers tend to be more risk averse. German companies can use this to their advantage, particularly if they seek to build up and expand local value creation. Anything “Made in the US” is certainly very popular. In addition, the US wages are distinctively higher than the European ones. Top talents expect top packages. 


LK: Are there currently any interesting projects in the US?

FH: During the last few years, we have been able to fill very high-quality positions on C-level, such as “President Americas”,“Managing Director USA” or “Managing Director Canada”. We regularly visit important local industrial trade shows like the IMTS, PackExpo or promat automate to expand our network and gain insights to the local market in North America. We are presently working on projects recruiting first-level executives on the East Coast as well as in North Carolina since these are areas with many German subsidiaries.
