Does Japan offer new opportunities during times of geopolitical crisis?

We are currently in the process of scheduling an appointment with the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Japan.

Markus Schürmann, the delegate of the German economy in Japan and director of the AHK, would like to advise us both on potential opportunities and possibilities available for medium-sized businesses from Germany and offer orientation on the unique conditions of the Japanese market.

In line with our projects in Japan, we have a local presence and would be delighted to use the opportunity for cultural exchange!

Japan’s dependency on China is even greater than Germany’s, which is leading to a historical change. As is customary in Japan, this change is being planned and prepared strategically and operationally with a high level of expertise.

The Ministry of Economy and Security, which has foresightedly been established in 2021, deals not only with critical topics such as resource security, onshoring and friendshoring but also addresses the issue of technology outflow resulting from foreign investments of the Japanese industry.

For this reason, new rules and regulations have been introduced and must to be followed by all companies. Several production sites are being returned to Japan or relocated to countries of the ASEAN (e.g. Vietnam).

The energy sector actively explores nuclear power, hydrogen, wind as well as Japan's many thermal springs (onsen), which have not played a significant role industrially until now.

Medium-sized businesses wanting to improve their positions in Japan, should definitely prioritize the development of products and services that are more competitive and advantageous compared to their Japanese counterparts.
